FUNERAL SERVICES were held Wednesday for Capt. John Cates of C.H. Cates and Sons Lid. in North Vancouver, who died at the age of 90. Cates was the son of the tugboat firm’s founder Capt. Charles Henry Cates, and had worked for the family business for more than 50 yveurs. He joined the firm in 192t, on his recurn from the Canadian mer- chant marine, and the tugboat firm became officially known as C.H. Cates and Sons. Cates also served for seven years as an MLA, beginning in 1945, and for three years was provincial labor minister, His wife Carrie, now deccased, was the first woman elected mayor of North Vancouver, Cates’ son-in-law Terry Waghorn is president and general manager of C.H. Cates and Sons. He is survived by his daughters, Mary Louise Anderson, Elizabeth Bradweil, Caroline Dunean and Anne Waghorn; two sisters and 14 grandchildren and five ereat grandchildren, NEWS photo Tarry Poters ISABEL likes to go dancing and shopping.
