Your training takes place in the classroom, a pool and the open water (poo! work may be conducted in open water). The classroom work teaches you about diving equipment, possible diving problems and how to deal with them, and the open water environment. The rules of diving will be spelled out to you. There is a written ex- am which you must pass. In the pool the instructor assesses your physical fitness and confidence in the water with a swim test, and you will also learn how to handle all the diving gear and practice all the diving skills before the instructor introduces you in- to the open water (lake or ocean) under highly controll- ed conditions. Your safety, enjoyment and learning are paramount. After a series of dives ( the more the better) you will be diving more with your diving buddy than the instructor and your growing confidence in your diving abilities will allow you to dive with just you and your buddy present.
