West Vancouver-Sunshine Coast voters resoundingly returned West Vancovver-Sunshine Coast MP Jobn Reynolds for a second time, while North -Vancouver MP Ted White was elected to Ottawa for a third time. Early results gave Reynolds a decisive lead over Liberal challenger Tan McKay. About two and a half hours after polls closed, Reynolds was nudging, towards the 17,000-vote mark (approximately 50% of the vote) to McKay's 8,800 and change. But the direction of victory in West Vancouver was already confirmed by 8:15 p.m., as polling returns gathered momentum. Said McKay's campaign manager Craig Munroe to a small group of cam- paign workers and Liberal supporters perched in front of a television set in an office in the 1500-block of Marine Drive in West Vancouver, “Several of the : television stations now have declared John Reynolds to be elected. While I would love to see another Florida, I don’t think it’s in the cards for us here. Jan has just called Mr. Reynolds to con- gratulate him on his campaign. As it looks now it was a successful one.” Said McKay, “I’m very, very dis- appointed with the decision. I’m isappointed because I worked extremely hard, but I worked extremely hard because of the dozens of people who worked ; : : hard around me. McKay took 14,167 votes or 26.6 per cent. Reynolds increased his mar- - gin of victory this time out.
