WEST VANCOUVER DISTRICT COUNCIL By Maureen Curtis West Vancouver District Council heard June 5 from former mayor Don Lanskail, who had taken a picture of the municipality, and a message from Mayor Mark Sager to the recent celebrations in the Netherlands. Lanskail was accompanied at the meeting by severa! for- mer members of the Seaforth Highlanders, including Brigadier (and former Lt.- Gov. General) Henry Bell- Irving. Lanskail] estimated that about 300,000 people lined the parade route in the Dutch suburb during the celebra- tions. He said the cemeteries where fallen Canadian sol- diers were buried are in immaculate condition. Bell-Irving said one of the most important messages he and other soldiers received on their return to the Netherlands was that their efforts and the efforts of those who died were “all worth while.” He was impressed at how appre- ciative even Dutch generations are of the Canadian contribution. “We don’t know much about free- dom; we’ve never lost it,” Bell-Irving said. 95 MOST CARS . suburb of the younger - BAY an NEWS photo Paul McGrath THERE'S STILL time to catch Jitters, a Keyhole Theatre Co. production at Presentation House, which runs to Saturday, June 10.
