apple growers sprayed their trees with

Steinman, in his extensively researched
book, Diet for a Poisoned Planet (1990),
reports eighty different pesticide residues
found in sixteen samples of conventional

wax in order to “improve” their
appearance. The wax is often laced with
fungicide and pesticide residues.

Steinman recommends that consumers
buy organically grown apples whenever
possible. For those who buy nonorganic he
suggests that ali conventional apples be
peeled or washed with a produce wash
designed to remove the wax.
