20 — Friday, March 29, 1991 - North Shore News Many apartments still without programs IS THERE a strange sound emanating from the walls of your apartment building? Peggy Trendell- Whittaker Ss ECOINFO You may have attribuied it to water in the pipes or the bizarre habits of your neighbors, but the chances are it could be the grumbling discontent of a building full of tenants who are still without recycling facilities. international Paper Industries (IPI) has installed 96-galion recycling bins for bottles and jars, cans and plastic milk jugs and pop botties in about half of the North Shore’s multi-family complexes. While these buildings are, by and large, operating smoothly, there are still a number of com- plexes that have yet to be in- troduced to our municipal recycl- ing program. But if you are one of the unfor- tunates left out in the cold, pause a moment before launching into a diatribe against IPI or the North Shore Recycling Program. SATURDAY Merch 30--Easter hours. N.V. What it is missing is the returned authorization form from a good number of apartment complexes. Without one, IPI can’t install the carts and begin the recycling ser- vice. All buildings have been sent at least one authorization form for the owner/manager to fill out and return, Some may have gone astray, been sent to the wrong person or simply been neglected by the recipient. Whatever the reason, these missing forms are proving the weak link in the recycling chain of events. So if you are impatiently ‘awaiting your turn for onsite recycling facilities, hunt down the person in charge of your building and remind her or him abouc the authorization form. Your manager can discuss the details with IPI by calling 929-3416. Also currently under way is a North Shore Recycling Program pilot project on recycling in public places. At West Vancouver Arena, recCentres Magnussen and Lons- dale, and North Van District Hall, you'll find bins for recycling tins and bottles near the garbage con- tainer. Hopefully, the service will be expanded after the test period is over. You can help ensure such an expansion by using the new bins properly and keeping them con- taminant-free.
