22 - Wednesday, January 14, 1987 - North Shore News 1987 SCHOOL board chairman for West Vancouver is trustee George Suart, who retired earlier this year as vice-president in charge of administration for Simon Fraser University (SFU), a post he held for 19 years. Suart was a_ schoo! trustee previously from 1972 to 1976, and sought re-election to the board in November. Justice R.D. Grandison con- ducted the swearing-in ceremonies recently for the new school board, which includes Suart, incumbents Margot Furk, Barbara Howard and 1986 board chairman Mike Smith, and newcomer, Jean Ferguson. Barbara Howard was elected 1987 vice-chairman by the board. Suart said, as chairman he wants to see the board working together, and also working with ‘‘interface groups’’ such as teachers towards common education goals. BACKGROUND Suart has a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Western Ontario, and worked eight years as a Management consultant before coming to SFU from Montreal. He has also served on the board of Capilano College and British Col- umbia Institute of Technology (BCIT), been chairman of the commission of enquiry into the operation of Vancouver Com- munity College, acted as consul- tant to the Ministry of Education, and was president of the Canadian Association of Business Officers. Suart said he was pleased to be back on the West Van schoo! board because he had liked the job of trustee previously, and now had the time because of his retirement. APPOINTMENTS The following trustees were ap- pointed to the board’s standing committees: education - Howard and Furk; personnel - Suart and Smith; financial planning - Smith and Ferguson; public relations and communications - Ferguson and Suart; policy and planning - Furk and Howard.
