History and all that stuff ARGYLE SOCIAL Studies teachers made a com- mitment several years ago to use all the energy and skills possible to attain a greater degree of scholar- ship. We trusted that in the spin-off a sense of pride and good citizenship would be achieved among the students. Each teacher worked en- thusiastically to acmeve the gaal. Scholarship results in History 12 and Geography }2, the two subject areas in which scholarship eaams may be written, have increased dramatically during the last last few years. More than $0% of students registered in these two areas now write the scholarship exam each year. Results in the mandatory provincial exams which were written in both January and June of the last school year, demonstrated the degree to which we had attained our goal. [In addition, student enroliment in the elective areas such as Law 11, Psychology 11, Civilizanons 12, and Economies $1 has in- creased significantly. Better academic achieve- ment has created a more desirable classroom clifiate. Morale has improved, job sausftaction and productivity have incteased. Both students and teachers in the Social Studies area have experienced a sense of accomplishment. The means of improving academic achievement in- volved a structured program in which reading and writing skills are emphasized. Progressing from defini- tion writing in Grade 8 to essay writing in Grade 11 and 12, the student is encouraged to attain an appropriate level of achievement. Final exams are part of each Social Studies course; hence, the student approaches the Grade 12 scholarship and prosincial exams with little apprehension. The support of the Library, the learning Assistance Centre and the ad- ministrauion has enabled us to deal with the difficulties faced in coping with a very great range of abilities and interests. The success of our program has made uy more determined to give each and every student the skills need- ed to achieve excellence Argyle leaves town V4 NVOODE RN Department has been offer Loavtigir apes iyge sou sesx oan bres ty ane Csermman UEhis year toe ttre fest time Spanish ws alsa be rig oottered Thre students Peeqcity brights se trarod Prene by at the Catade BM level and Spraniist, aod Coerman at the Cade level The percentage of students todvingw a second Laripiagee os. as foolhoaws Soa abe wom Oy threnet ondve Serade 4 'O% Chie th Cretan on SN pvaiishis Cor ade TOP OL %e theenoh AO Crertiiat hel Coeade LE Mo Cbreas t Crcrthiat A Mey “sprarish) rade [2 UMN, hres th A Ceerttrae cate No rhaad prot hanpe ou. ne ee SES es Oe vet das a ec oe Fc oT ome ooh the Lam 4 budget outs oof We hope that this wall be reopened as soon as posss ble vn order that our students will onmee have again Hone Practhee co oral work ont ane ndisachuaal basis bach veat utider thy MuNp dees uf Opens Hhoruse © atacda a federally spun sored programing we offer ont Pera ty PL stiuiheric ste orgy frost uataity ter take fear! brooal peop Cx Pratipe with stadersrs froin a Preto speahkitig Sefer 6 Cue bes | rt re ey wf vat Students hosts my Cheba.
