PROJECT evitaliza ion now up to NV merchants IMPROVEMENTS TO the Lower Lonsdale area will be the first phase of a scheme to revitalize North Vancouver City’s downtown area. The $100,000 initial project is to be initiated by council and will proceed pending approval of the nine pro- perty owners and merchants involved who will have to take a SO per cent share in the cost with the City. Participants should realize substantial im- provements before having to pay the first dollar,”’’ said F.A. Smith, North Van- couver Deputy Director of Development and Licensing Services, at Monday’s meeting of council. The $100,000 project in- volves extensive brickwork in the lane west of Lonsdale and south of Esplanade which connect Carrie Cates Court with Roger Avenue. Property owners’ share of the costs will be levied on the basis of the narrowest fron- tage adjacent to the im- provements. The moncy for the project will be loaned to the municipality by the B.C. Ministry of Municipal Af- fairs at no more than 12 per cent with the start of repay- ment deferred for two years. Saturday, to Royal Trust's Lawyer. Mortgage Broker. Appraiser. Realtor. John Braithwaite, chairman of the revitalization committee, made the motion that the City initiate the pro- ject as a local improvement project. “*This should get us some action in the Lower Lonsdale area. It is the best proposal for the money available and hopefully the merchants will approve it,”” he said. The motion received ap- proval from all members of council excepting Ald.
