Ball hockey is_ rapidly becoming a favourite with the youngsters anywhere there is room to run, and the North Van. Recreation Commission is making room. Pee Wee tourney success THE RECENT N.S.W.C. 13th Annual Pee Wee A Tournament was a great success. 16 teams competed during the five day tour- nament which has become one of Canada's prestigious Pee Wee A tournaments. Thirty teams applied to compete in the tournament with 16 chosen; |! from Saskatchewan, 2 from Alberta and 13 from Nanaimo, Smithers, Kamloops, Victoria, Duncan and the greater Vancouver area. Each team played at least four games with the top six teams making it to the finals. The C final was between Richmond and Kamloops with Richmond beating Kamloops 7 to 4. The B final was a repeat of competitive games played throughout the year between Kermnsdale - Point Grey and N.S.W.C.. with N.S.W.C. defeating Kermisdale 3 to 1. Recreation Centre. The Junior league, for boys and girls ages 12-14, play Monday or Wednesday from 4:30-6:30 pm, and the Intermediate League, ages 15-17, clash on Tuesdays or Thursdays. The interest has been overwhelming for both these programs as_ the players look forward to moving from the back alleys and parking lots to a regulation size hard floor surface. Both leagues are part of a joint endeavour between the North Vancouver Garden Shop Recreation Commission and the B.C. Men’s Ball Hockey Association in attempt to spawn the idea of a youth league for the North Shore. On Sunday, April 24, 2:30- 3:30 pm, representatives from both organizations plan to conduct a free Skills Clinic at the Rec. Centre arena. Players will be put through drills and if time permits, will be able to play their first game on the arena floor before starting league play. That Sunday will also be used as a registration period. There are a few openings remaining for youngsters interested in playing.
