won the 1992 Macau Classic Car. Race, then
back to England where he clinched the British
Supercup Championship. Closer to home,
Simmiss drove the Keen Engineering Formula
Adiantic car during the 1995 Vancouver Indy.

Since then he’s been developing a local race
car construction business. As the North
American representative for Shrike Racing Cars,
one of the world’s most successful sports racer
constructors, he has been attempting to build
the cars with as many locally sourced parts and
specialized services as possible.

“It’s been a very difficult start-up, largely
because Vancouver is not exactly located at the
economic centre of the race car industry. But
having said that, if we can get past the initial

| start-up problems it’s a very viable industry.”

The ACRL is the only city/team based racing
‘series in North America. As many as 12 cities are
represented at events throughout the Western US
and Canada. The Vancouver race, sponsored by
IWE Rear Ends, takes place at 6 p.m. Saturday,
