A Victoria provincial court judge ordered Wednesday that Upper Highlands resident Robert Roy Owens stay away from playgrounds and parks for one year. Owens, 45, is a con- victed pedophile who Served a six-year jail sentence for sexually assaulting three young girls before moving to North Vancouver last year. Owens, a former Vancouver Island resi- dent, has not been charged with a crime here. He was brought before the courts based on a Sooke RCMP offi- cer’s “fears on reason- able grounds” that Owers would commit a sexual offence against a ckild. Owens entered into a recognizance to keep the peace with conditions that he not go to places where children under age 14 gather. North Van neighbors continue to protest Owens’ living in an area where many families with young chil- dren live. The MV Wind will be used to carry bridge construction crews during the building of the bridge between New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island. The MV Runner wil! be ready in about two wecks. The boats are worth about $500,000 cach. Adrenalin Marine Ltd. the company that built the boats, is owned and operated by Peter Mitchell. Mitchell is a master boat builder. The MV Wind is 41°8" long. is 14°2" across the beam and has a draft of 2°3". The boat is powered by two Caterpillar diesel engines.
