derails in NV

SASKATCHEWAN WHEAT Pool employees left work early
Monday after a CN Rail tenk-car filled with chlorine derailed near
the North Vancouver waterfront bulk grain facility.

The evacuation was instituted as a precaution after emergency
crews discovered the outer metal skin of the derailed car had been
ripped open.

The damaged car was one of two chlorine cars purked on CN
track near the grain terminal.

Three grain cars on a track adjacent to the chlorine cars were
also damaged. .

Low Level Road was closed for approximately 12 hours while
crews worked to reposition and secure the derailed car.

The accident occurred just after 6 p.m.

North Vancouver RCMP, Canadian Oxy, Ministry of Transport,
CN and North Vancouver City Fire Department crews responded
to the accident. .

stolen vehicie

NORTH VANCOUVER RCMP recovered a stolen vehicle May 6
after the driver abandoned it when he made an unsuccessful at-
tempt to get fuel from a nearby service station.

The Caucasian male, approximately 30 years old, pulled into the
Esso gas station at 177 West Third St. He asked an attendant for a
eanister to fill with gasoline ard was told that he needed to leave a
deposit.

But instead of leaving the deposit, the man became upset, broke
a window and drove off.

The attendant noted the vehicle’s licence plate number and cailed
North Vancouver RCMP at 3:25 p.m.

Police later recovered the vehicle parked in the 100-block of
West First Street. ,
