Learn about volunteering

NORTH SHORE residents can
learn about volunteering oppor-
tunities by attending So You Want
To Volunteer (SYWTY}, a seminar
presented by the North Shore In-
formation and Volunteer Centre
on Sept. 29.

SYWTV facilitator Kathy Dor-
nan says: ‘“‘Most people regard
volunteering as a dutiful thing —
necessary, but not that fulfilling.
We hope to inform people about
some of the hidden benefits, like
job testing and experience, social
contact, recreation.”

She adds that a worthy volunteer
experience offers training and
supervision to the volunteer so that

WINNERS OF the 1988 North
Shore Gardens Contest will be an-
nounced on Friday, Sept. 30.

The contest committee will host
its third annual award night for
contest participants and invited
guests in the Tamarack Room,
Delbrook Community Centre, 600
West Queens Rd., North Van-
couver.

Commencing at 7:30 p.m., the
program will begin with an il-
lustrated talk by professor Patrick
Mooney, Department of Land-
scape Architecture, UBC, and will
be followed by the presentation of
awards and a slide show featuring
the winning gardens and other
selected garden entries.
