THIS YEAR’S recipient of the
annual Gary Hunter Memorial
Award was presented by the West
Vancouver District Fire Depart-
ment (o Elaine Wai of Sentinel
Secondary School in West Van-
couver.

Wai was deemed best overali
student and athlete in) the
municipality. The award included
a $500 scholarship. Wai graduated
this year from Sentinel.

She ranked as one of the top
high school volleyball players in

B.C. over the pist year. In the fall
she led her team to a silver medal
finish in the B.C. *SAA* champi-
onships.

She was named to the first all-
star team at the tournament.

While excelling in basketball and
tennis as well, Wai managed to
hold down a 4.0 grade point
average, served on the student
council and was named Sentinel’s
top student.

Wai plans to attend McGill Uni-
versity.
