shoulders with several prime
ministers, numerous cabinet
ministers, and countless mil-
itary and naval officers.

During his entire profes-
sional life in Canada,
Lowery took an active inter-
est and persona! involvement
in all matters relative to the
welfare of Canadian: ship-
. building.

Lowery, who is both
pleased and honored with
the award, says the most
' satisfying aspect of receiving
the award is the letters from
colleges, especially former
t employees.

‘ Born in - Newcastle-upon-
Tyne, England, Lowery began
his career with a slow boat
honeymoon voyage to China.

He then became assistant
dockyard manager in

- Singapore. After the war, he
worked as general manager
of the Melbourne Harbour
Trust Shipyards in Australia.

Lowery. then* came to

shipbuilding and marine

Vickers.

COMMITMENT

This was followed by 21
years as vice-president and
chief technical officer of
Canada Steamship Lines in
Montreal.

Lowery. says his ‘biggest

volvement in restricting the
St. Lawrence Seaway to Ca-
nadian registered vessels.
