A LARGE garbage in-
cinerator could soon be tak-
ing care of North Shore's
garbage with West Van-
couver District) council's
approval.

Counce] Monday received a
memo from the municipal
operabons director concern-
ing a solid waste incineration
pollution study for the
Premier Street landfill dump.

West Van's decision to go
along with the environmental
impact study follows a re-
quest last August by North
Vancouver District for all
three North Shore

municipalities to investigate
the feasibility of solid waste
burning for the region.

The recommendation ap-
proved by West Van also in-
cludes a provision in which
the study will be funded by
levying a $1 a tonne sur-
charge on the users of
Premier Street landfill.

Also, the recommendation
States the maximum cost of
the study should not exceed
$10,000.

In essence, the impact
study calls for an assessment
of what type and quality of
air pollutants could be ex-
pected from a garbage in-
cinerator and the impact of
these types of emissions on
the North Shore.
