It was a bright moment for Dennis Gowe of Lorjack Qevelopments Ltd. Since last Juné, Gowe and his architect have met with several rejec- tions and attempted to make the necessary changes to ob- tain approval. After being turned down at the March 12 first reading of the amendment, Gowe felt that all of the information had not come out in the public hearing. He obtained approval from council last week to make further representation in order to clear up misconceptions. That presentation convinc- ed Aldermen Rod Clark and Dana Taylor to switched their formerly negative votes. Lorjack couldn’t win the ap- proval of Alderman Stella Jo Dean, however, who con tinued to object to the high density of a 21-unit residence on two city lots. The density ts just within the city’s guidelines for densi ty, however. There had also been concerns about the residence being strata ulled, which allows for the possibility of the units being sold separately. Gowe cx- plained that the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Cor- poration had stipulated this so that it could, if necessary, take back the mortgage and sell off the units The pro- gram through which = the CMHC 1s funding | orjack 1s intended (to encourage the development of rental a commodation It is giving lorjack a 1% year interest free loan on the stipulation that the untts are not sold privately AN ALERT neighbor ‘spotted then grabbed a 14- year-old thief Saturday, stopping a residential break-in attempt.
