Ei community round-up Hl | Miss North Shore deadline Tuesday FINAL DATE for entries in the 1983 Miss North Shore Pageant is next Tuesday, May 24. Young ladies interested in taking part in the annual beauty-cum-personality co- atest should contact Pageant president Gertie Todd as soon as possible at 985-0555 (daytime) or 988-1536 (evenings). Entrants must be between 17 and 21 years of age, single (never married) and a North or West Vancouver resident for at least six months. They will enjoy various social events, including participation in fashion shows at the Coach House and at Park and Tilford Gardens on June 4 and 7 respectively. The crowning of Miss North Shore 1983, together with her Princess and Miss Personality, takes place June 17 at a full-length talent show in the Centennial Theatre. Later in the summer Miss North Shore competes with other B.C. “queens” for the Miss PNE title. Marked rise in volunteers ELLIE STOCKNER was re- elected president of the North Shore Volunteer Action Centre Society at its fifth annual meeting on May 11. She will be joined by Pat Mislap (vice president), Joan Cook (secretary), Bruce Grey (treasurer) and Jenny Moss, Fran McDowell, Bill Perry, Jane Thompson and Nora Wheeler, who are continuing on the board. Newly elected board members are Irene Duncan and Betty Freeze, plus a representative from the Junior League still to be appointed. In reporting to the meeting, Mrs. Stockner noted the marked increase in people inquiring about volunteer opportunites and coming to the Volunteer Centre for personal referral to community = services needing volunteers. Mrs. Stockner said she was pleased that his program would be able to continue through generous grants from the Chris Spencer Foundation, the Hamber Foundation and the Francescans.
