You wouldn't believe.
Having to find the time
for wine-tastings, for
instance, held in
luxurious surroundings
bulging with fruits of
the sea and tree.

Having to
demonstrations of . exotic
foods which the promoters
hope will appeal ‘to your
masculine taste- -buds.
Trudging off to “openings”
and being exposed to. great

mounds of fat pates, creamy
mousses, bon bons in frilly
papers giving off maddening
fumes of chocolate. All for
“my men”

You've “not heard about
them before this because-
some were disappointing,

intentions towards you. For
instance, the wine at the
tasting would be fragrant,.
fruity, light and pleasing, but
when I later went to buy a

bottle for home.consumption:

it proved to be thin, with an
indesirable aftertaste. The
exotic foods were from tins
and packets and doubtless
made great snacks, but I’m
trying to help you learn to
cook and that’s the wrong
road.

But the latest invitation
proved to be a winner and I

Cherries Flambe

1 can Bing cherries
(pitted)
2 Tbsp. honey
'% lemon, cut into strips
% orange, cut into
thin strips
'%, cup Scotch whisky
Ice cream

In a wee saucepan, drain’

the juice from the cherries
and put cherries aside. Add
the ‘honey, lemon -and the
orange to the cherry juice:
Heat over low heat until liq-
uid is reduced by two-thirds.

Add cherries and heat
through. Add the Scotch
whisky just prior to igniting
with a match to flambe.
(Scotch should be warm to
ignite,. but not cooked so the
alcohol burns off.)
Serve over vanilla ice
cream. This kitchen-tested
recipe makes 6 servings.
(Note: Be caeful when you
flambe. The Scotch — or
any alcohol — will ignite
quickly. Do not stand
directly over the dish.)

in the Japanese store just up
from 15th. There are many
Japanese condiments and
ingredients to be had, some
packaged, some fresh, in-
cluding tofu, and a large part
of the space is given over to
tableware and decorations of
one sort or another. We
grow very - cosmopolitan.
