AFTER his dad passed away
last Tuesday, Clark Brolly
found a box filled with papers
and documents he hadn't seen
before.

Among those papers was Robert
George Brotly’s British passport,
stamped at the time of his entry to
Canada in 1952, and his letter of resig-
nation tram the Reval UIster
Constabulary, where he volunteered and
served for cight years betore emigrating.

“H's a pretty amazing story, really,”
said: Clark, Robert's oniy child. “The

Killed. He wanted to get out.”

So when Rebert saw a notice adver
tising aoneed for police otficers in
Edmonton, the 25-year-old applied.

“He Jett everything he owned with
his parents and came_over here sith 50
pounds. “Thats ali he was alowed to
bring.”

Edmonton, Robert came to the West
Vancouver Police Department, and
worked bis way up the ladder, all the way
from constable to chic, He retired in
1988.

“He was really well respected,” said
Clark, wheis.a West Vancouver firefight
er. “People are always asking atter him.”

Robert was abo generous with his
Hac, and coached both kids’ soccer and
baseball tor 25 vears

“He believed that team sports kept
kids out of trouble and he never turned
a kid away ibe wanted to play.”

His sense of fairness inchided his own
son. When he was seven or eight years
old, Clark remembers telling his dad he
didn’t tech tke going to a Wediesday
night practice

“He said “That's fine. You dow't have
tol” Clark rode with his dad to the
same that rainy Saturday, and) found
himself sidelined.

was it, end of the discussion. | never
missed a practice again.”

The 73 vearold died Nov 28 at
Lions Gate Hospital surrounded by fam-
ily.

He is survived by Clark and daugh-
terdin-law Janine Brolly and) grand:
daughters Chantelle and Alicia, and by
his ex.wite Betty, He was remembered
yesterday at) North Lonsdale United
Church in a service that included both
police and) fire department honour
guards.

“He was an unbelievable guy.” said
Clark. “He was not only my dad, but my
best frend. Pm going to miss him.”
