tions, electrical cords and the
parade of people going in
and out of your honie call for
More safety precautions.

The Greater Vancouver
Home Builders’ Association
suggests the following holi-
day safety tips:

M select a fresh Christmas
tree and greenery.

Look for a trunk sticky
with sap and green needles
which bend and are secure on
the branches.

_Afthe tree is moist, it is less
likely. to catch fire;
@ when using a real
Christmas tree, cut the base
ata 45-degree angle. Place it
in a container with water and
keep the water level above
the cut;
@ place trees a safe distance
away from stoves, radiators,
vents, fireplaces and any
other heat source that might
dry the tree.

“Inspect the eree daily for
dryness;

@ use no more than three
light sets on any one exten-
sion cord;

@ never burn wrapping paper
in a fireplace.

Don’t burn evergreens in
‘the fireplace or in a wood
stove to dispose of them.

They could flare out of
control.

After Christmas, have
your real tree used for
mulch.
