Vacuum efficiently DIFFERENT MODELS FOR DIFFERENT JOBS THE MOST important part of your carpet maintenance program is vacuuming. There are three kinds of vacuum cleaners. One kind has a beater bar built into the vacuum or into a speciai head attachment to beat the carpet. while it vacuums. The other kind relies on suction alone ana should be used only for surface cleaning or carpeting with long pile yarns (ex- cept for high air velocity commer- cia) vacuums which have the power to clean in depth). The third type is a central vacuum system. For the best cleaning results this vacuum should be equipped with a beater bar powerhead. Vacuum cleaners with beater bars are essential for thorough cleaning of regular types of carpeting, particularly if the pile is dense. The head of the vacuum should be flat and smoot to pre- vent snagging the carper. Keep brushes clean and replace them when they are worn out. Vacuum dirt bags shoula be thrown out when halt full. The suction for the vacuusn 1. created in the air space of the dir. bag and if you (ili up the ai space, there will not be enough suction power to draw in all the dirt. if your vacuum has a height ad- justment (to compensate for dif- ferent carpet heights), set the dial RD Specializing in chipping & shredding for the home gardener Let us turn your garaen Sey refuse imo soit conditioning ie capone jf. ompost & muich compos ee, 947-9772 or 922-9772 until there is a slight resistance to pushing and pulling. Move the vacuum slowly oack and forth to get the dirt particles that are buried deep in the pile. The more dense and thick the pile, the more thorough the cleaning needed and the more slowly you need to go to give the vacuum time to draw up the dirt particles. You may vacuum in any direc- tion but the best cleaning action is probably obtained by working against the lay (or nap) of the pile. If a uniform surface appear- ance is desired, finish the vacuum- ing in one direction. If a random appearance is desired, finishing can be done in any direction. Daily Care: Light vacuuming or carpet sweeping is usually needed daily in heavy traffic areas. This is to pick up most of the surface dust, fint and other particles. Carpet sweepers, canister or cen- tral vacuums with a floor brush are satisfactory for this quick once over. Weekly Care: For best results, carpets need a thorough cleaning once per week, with a vacuum equipped with a brush and beater bar or a very high air velocity commercia) vacuum. The beater agitates the pile to shake out abrasive dirt particles buried below the surface. Move the vacuum slowly to give the dirt time to be shaken loose and be drawn up by the vacuum suction. 15 - Friday, Sune 15, 1999 - North Shore News @ Kiln-dried frames with hardwood corner blocks, gives lifetime warranty ®@ Ultra high density foam core with 5 year guarantee e Gorgeous and dramatic assortment of fabrics in polyester/cotton/rayon fibre trends.
