CARTER, the greatest jazz
singer in the world, will
appear for two performances
at the Arts Club Theatre,
Granville Island.

BETTY CARTER is a
product of the big band era,
fresh out of the Detroit Con-
servatory of Music, she
worked with Lionel Hamp-
ton’s band while still in her
teens. During the next 30
years, she became some-
thing of a cult figure. Her
idosyncratic phrasing, high

trebly voice, constant impro-
vising, and unusual repetoire
have become amblematic of
jazz singing at its best.
CARTER has fun with songs.
and so, consequently, does
her audience.

Her appearance marks the
second concert in the new
Real Jazz Sernes with two
shows at 7:30 and 9:30. The
seating capacity of the
theatre is 450 per show so
tickets will be at a premium.

your hair into top condition,
and you should discuss
headdress options and
possibilities well before the
last few panic days.

At the initial meeting,
your hairdresser will
thoroughly analyse your hair
and give you conditioning,
colouring and styling
recommendations. Dennis,

exclusively at the Monroe
salon, might consider giving
the prospective bride a
Sanara body permanent if he
feels that her hair needs that
extra bounce, to make it
picture-perfect for the
wedding day. If her hair
seems mousey or drab,
Dennis would recommend a
Wellatone hair colour in a
shade close to the bride's
own to add depth and shine.

Your hairstylist should
have a dress rehearsal with
you; a photostat or sketch of
your dress would certainly
help him design a hairstyle to
complement your total look.
