The culinary experience is one of the countless offerings up for grabs at the upcoming North Shore Counselling Centre (NSCC) Fourth Annual Charity Auction, 7 p.m. at the Ron Andrews Community Centre. The auctioneer will be parading a wide array of goods and services including trips, tours, golf with West Vancouver Mayor Don Lan- skail and a tennis game with TV news anchorman Tony Parsons. The NSCC, located at 2104 Gordon Ave. in West Vancouver, provides professional, accredited counselling services to people who need help in dealing with stress and change. The counselling services, provided by pastoral counsellors, cover a broad range of issues, in- cluding marital and family con- flict, depression or anxiety, suicide threats, bereavement and dif- ficulties related to the transitional _ Stages of life. Approximately 70 per cent of the centre’s income is collected from fees for services. The remain- ing 30 per cent comes from fund- raising activities, donations and grants. The money is contributed to the Storchouse Endowment Fund, jointly set up by the NSCC and the Vancouver Foundation, which provides matching money. “The centre is committed to putting in $25,000 annually for three years. This i3 the third year of the program,’’ Austen said. “The problems people come to the centre with are problems we all face at one point in our lives,” she said. ‘‘The fund is there to lend each other a hand in our times of need.”” All counselling clients pay a sliding fee based on income and number of dependents. ‘*The fees can be as little as $) per session and as much as $75 per hourly ses- sion,’* Austen said.
