10 - Wednesday, December 16, 1987 - North Shor. News Christmas charities scram TWO NORTH Shore Christmas charities hoping to make the holidays a bit brighter for needy families are in dire need of food donations to meet the demand. “T tell you, the food has got to start coming in,’ said a worried Ruth Stout, head of the West Vancouver Santa Claus Fund. “We're packing (hampers) this weekend, and I’m looking at some empty tables here.’* With a commitment to supply hampers to more than 200 needy West Vancouver families, the WYVSCF only has enough food to fill five — and there is not much time for the donations to come in before Christmas. At the North Vancouver Christmas Bureau, the number of needy residents has increased, while the food donations are only trickling into the charity. More people are seeking help from the North Vancouver Christmas Bureau this season, and donations are not coming in to mect the rising demand, said bureau chairman Erica O'Dwyer. But for this year's food drive to be a success, the Christmas Bureau and the Santa Claus Fund need the public to donate food to make up the hampers. To help meet the need this Christmas, the North Shore News — together with 53 North Shore businesses — is spearheading the drive to collect food. Spread throughout the three North Shore municipalities, the businesses are sporting News ban- ners and posters heralding them as a collection depot for the two Christmas charities.
