LADIES WESTEARW BOWLERS 51 - Sunday, October 5, 1986 ~ North Shore News Chadwick bowls down competition THUNDERBIRD LANES hosted the first tournament of the season for the Ladies Western Bowlers Association on Sept. 21. Twenty-five women bowlers entered the tournament's handicap and scratch divisions. Leading qualifier in the scratch division was Sandra Chadwick with a four-game total of 777, closely followed by Jan Crock with 776. Third highest qualifier was San- dra Dawkins from Bellingham with 771. High qualifier in the handicap division was Kathie MacPherson with a four-game total of 695 and a 136-pin handicap for a total of 831. Derilyn Tearoe was second with 761 and a 56-pin handicap for an 817 total of 814. After two games of match play in each division, the final three games saw Chadwick defeat Tearoe with a score of 447 to 385. Donna Jeffries bowled a 216 game to win $15 as high game out of the money. Bowling in the Lions Gate Ladies Trin League, May Smith had a high for the evening with a 728 four game series. In the North Skore 64 League on Wednesday morning at Lions Gate Lanes, Barbara Stewart woke up the league by sparing an almost impossible seven - 10 split. Also in the North Shore 64 League, Anne Wright posted a huge single game of 258. United open- ed its new soccer season with back-to-back victories recently. The 1985 North Shore Interme- diate Soccer Association (NSISA) cup winners blasted Burrard War- siors and downed North Shore Rangers 4-] in recent local soccer action. Chadwick's games of 238 and 236 contributed to the high series and Shott converted the difficult 6-7-10 split to help the team along. The vouth bowlers at Lions Gate Lanes were inspired by four-year- old Tommy Brock who bowled two games of 47 and 56 in the ban- tam division. In the senior division Rob West was the top male bowler with a high single game of 264. For the girls, Kerri Thorburn bowled a high single game of 200 and Tamara Yan Gelder bowled a 507 total. Sparing in the Duggan West In- surance Mixed Trio League at Thunderbird Lanes, Mark Innes started with three games of 203, 242 and 202. As a grand finale he had a 279 game for a tremendous 926 total. Colin Shott came up with an 888 total with games of 225, 234, 225 and 204. Greg Tearoe shot a high single game of 239 and Derilyn Tearoe took over the ladies high single game with a 231. Kim Nonis had the second women’s high single with a 227 game. Don Zerkee was the man of the hour in the Andrea’s B.C. All Star Men’s League at Thunderbird Lanes when he bowled a 268 for his first game. He started the second game with a spare and went on to bowl 11 strikes in a row for a 290 game. His last two games were 191 and 223 for a grand total of 972. Steve Butterley and Mark Iones were in hot pursuit as Butterley bowled games of 233, 227, 434 and 197 for a 900 series and Innes roll- ed 212, 227, 235 and 223 for an 897 total.
