Christmas treats several weeks ago - it’s a

[ec SURE you started stocking-up on special

budget breaker if you’ve got to buy everything

in the last few days.

Here’s a recipe | got more
than 25 years ago from B.C.
Hydro back in the days when
it was B.C. Electric. It’s
almost foolproof, always
popular and it freezes well -
essenuial in a family of
chocolate lovers. Make it,
and hide it in the deep
recesses of your freezer.

It makes a large quantity -
126 1’’-inch squares so one
batch can be divided into
several hostess gifts.

CREAMY

CHOCOLATE FUDGE
442 cups sugar

1 15 oz. can evaporated

milk

42 cup butter

1 12-o0z. milk chocolate bar

12 oz. semi-sweet chocolate

bits

1 7-02. jar marshmallow

creme

2- loz. squares unsweetened

chocolate, shaved

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 cup chopped nuts

(walnuts or pieces cut
best)

Blend sugar, milk, butter
Cook over medium-low heat,
surring, until muxture has
boiled gently 5 minutes.
Break chocolate bar in a large
mixing bowl. Add chocolate
bits, marshmallow creme and
unsweetened chocolate. Add
cooked mixture, blending
well and then vanilla and
nuts. Beat until creamy and
well blended. Pour into a
buttered 9’’ x 14°’ pan. Chill
well before cutting.

I’m going to stock up on a
few of these - one to cook the
morning of the 24th. Chilled
and sliced paper thin it makes
marvellous sandwiches - try
the open-faced Danish style.

Safeway is featuring pork
this week. Look for the fresh
cubed pork at $1.49 a pound.
If you’ve got a package or so
in your freezer and some bot-
tled sweet and sour sauce on
your shelf you've got a good
quick meal.

For a party appetizer,
brown the cubes and skewer

each cube with a cube of
pineapple. A small square of
green pepper is good, too.
Serve in a chafing dish top-
ped with S&S sauce or with
several dipping sauces - sweet
mustard, plum or S&S - on
the side.
