B2- Wednesday, November 30, 1983 - North Shore News HIGH SCHOOL ROUND UP Sutherland,W.Van ranked in top 10 SUTHERLAND came fifth in the senior girls AA provin- cial championship volleyball! tourney held at UBC last weekend, while West Van- couver came eighth. Sutherland finished with a 5-4 record; defeating North Delta, Prince of Wales, West Van, Vanier and Highland, and losing to New Westminster, Mission, Ver- non and the eventual cham- pions, Mt. Douglas College. West Van had a 3-6 record. Two Sutherland players were chosen for the second all star team — Lisa Cepeliauskas and Liza Snoeck. One West Van girl made it onto the second all star team — Jocey Ford. Sutherland had better luck winning the Vancouver and District final 3 games to 1 over New Westminster a few days before. In other Vancouver and District finals, Sentinel won the junior championship in a round-robin tournament with 3.N. Burnett from Richmond and New Westminster. Sutherland beat New Westminster for the juvenile title, 2 games to 1; and Sen- tinel made it a clean sweep for the North Shore by beating out New West and Cambie for the bantam title. RUGBY Hillside came from behind to defeat Alpha 34-16 in the Vancouver and District ban- tam rugby final. Alpha had been leading 16-4 at one point before the North Shore school came back. Hillside scored 22 unanswered points in the second half; led by Ken Campbell with 3 tries, Jason de Wolf with 2 and lan Jones and Glen Johnson with 1 try each. Johnson also scored three converts. BADMINTON Sentinel made it six years Pee Wees win ¢ NORTH VANCOUVER London Drugs PeeWee B’s turned in a strong team per- formance on Sunday defeating Hollyburn 9-1. A solid close checking effort by Sean Murphy and sound goal tending by Craig Bolen, kept Hollyburn to one goal scored by Tim Kehler late in the se- cond period. North Vancouver’s scoring punch was led by Arden Fowler and Sonny Auld (4 points each), lan Cook, Bryan Nikkel and Aaron Vornbroch adding 2 points each. Defence players James Storey and Brian Hamilton added a goal each. The North Vancouver PeeWee B’s record now stands at five wins, two losses and two ties. They bounced back to win 4-1 in an imporant game at home Saturday night against second place Delta Saints. Palmer School in Richmond. However, Sentinel only finished third at the junior level, despite being the defen- ding champs there. In the senior tournament, Sentinet dominated the play, scoring 34 points compared to second place Burnaby South’s 6. Handsworth and Hillside each had 4 points. With the victory Sentinel qualifies for the B.C. championships. But they’ll get a rest before trying to become the best in the pro- vince — that event doesn’t take place until March 30 and 31, 1984 in Nanaimo. In the junior tournament Sentinel finished with 8 points, while Argyle was fourth with 4 points. Two Richmond schools, Cambie and J.N. Burnett, tied for first. Vancouver Canuck players will be helping Coach House bests Goofy’s COACH HOUSE enjoyed its biggest victory of the season by defeating Goofy’s Place 3-1, in their North Shore Senior Soccer Association game. Mark Haston scored the hat trick for Coach House while Dan Calli replied for Goofys. The win moved Coach House out of the cellar of the Seymour Division. Pegasus Old Boys moved their record to .500 by beating Trev Jones Ex- cavating 4-1. Goal scorers for Pegasus were Tom Evans, Dave Mezmer and Doug Baker with a pair. Gerry Parkinson scored the lone goal for the Trev Jones side. North Shore Barbarians led by goal scorers Drew Fin- nerty, Neil Barkley and Rob Harte ran past Fast Eddies 3-0. The win leaves the much improved Barbarians resting comfortably at the top of the Capilano Division standings. Scandicraft who has led the Seymour Division since the start of the season posted their seventh win with a 1-0 score over the Lynnwood Hotel. Mike Roden scored the only goal of the game with five minutes remaining. Rive Bros. Landscaping rolled over Pioneer Grain Dust 4-1. The victory moved Rive Bros. back into second place in the Seymour Divi- sion. Centre forward Brian Acaster posted a pair of goals while Jack Adams and Brad Wick added singles. North Shore Chiefs and Attalos fought to a 1-1 tie. The tie leaves both teams in the middle of their respective divisions.
