INTEREST RATE PROTECTION THE ROYAL Bank is offering an investment opportunity for per- sonal clients with an interest rate hedge said to be unique among major Canadian deposit-taking institutions. Competitively priced one-year investment certificates, extendable for a further year at the same rate of interest, will be offered until May 9. The new investment option call- ed Option Advantage GIC offers personal clients investment certifi- cates regardless of whether rates go up or down. Because the certificates are ex- tendable, if rates drop over the year holders can renew their in- vestrment at the original rate for another full year. If rates increase,when the certif- icates mature holders will have the option of reinvesting their money at a higher rate.
