Granville, Oakridge, Coquitlam, Scott and Station Square Cinemas) WO MEN haunt John Moss (James Woods). The “Party Crasher’ (Steven Lang) is a trigger-happy wacko who delights in toying with the police before one of his very public hits. When Moss just about nails him, Hollywood action hero Nick Lang (Michael J. Fox) butts in. Literally. {t's an enormous prop cigarette for a Nick Lang billboard that knocks the cop down at a critical moment. And now that the star of mindless cartoon action films wants to be a serious actor, Nick picks the ‘‘Yoda of Cops” as his role model. He wants to live with Moss for two weeks to get this cop thing down tor his next project. For the next few days, this en- thusiastic cream puff from La-La- Land pesters and bumbles his way through ghetios, gang wars and psycho killers. And, to top it off, both of these nuisances interrupted what was to be a monumental achievement for Moss — a third date with the same woman (Annabelle Sciorra). That's about it for an hour and a half. Lots of noisy chases, a little humor and fess originality. It’s the typical odd cop formula. Stick two wildly contrasting male stars together, give them a common enemy, maybe a girlfriend fora tug-o-war or object of distress, and badabing, badaboom — instant it. Tim Bell FILM REVIEW Not that it’s awful. Fox has a lot of fun at his own expense. While nursing his cellular phone, the pampered star orders his fiunkies to send an arrangement to Spielberg with a note saying “something personal.”’ A parody preview of Nick’s indiana Jones- styled Smoking Gunn Ilis also quite funny. While it’s rumored that James Woods spoofs his usual intense, bug-eyed roles, the difference be- tween this performance and the one in The Boost or Cop might be charitably described as subtle. After all, it’s hard to puta spin on a throbbing neck vein. The Hard Way definitely takes the easy way oul.
