Many of the men who sailed her and other schooners of those days are living there yet, and when their town shipyard built the replicas of HMS Rose and HMS Bounty (for the movie starring Marlon Brando) in the early sixties, an undercurrent of interest in building a replica of Bluenose began to grow. Finally, in 1963 a long, sleck schooner glided out from her builder’s yard and thousands cheered as Bluenose iJ, the last of the tall schooners, came to life in Lunenburg Harbor. Bluenose II is a sailing goodwill ambassador for Nova Scotia and a symbol of Nova Scotia and Canada’s maritime heritage; her eighteen, all-Nova Scotian crew represent the Province of Nova Scotia for tourism awareness and industrial development. The 18,000-mile rcund trip voyage from Nova Scotia to Expo 786 will be her most ambitious voyage ever.
