Groups need Expo funding EXPO’S Special Events Committee on the North Shore needs to raise $10,000 to help finance 75 communi- ty events planned for Expo. By KIM PEMBERTON News Reporter The committee's assistant chairman, North Vancouver City Ald. Dana Taylor, said the most any individual group would need is 3600. Taylor hopes sponsors will be found from the North Shore business community. “We're trying to generate inter- est in the community and to attract visitors to the North Shore,”’ he said. “If there are visitors to the North Shere then the business community will benefit. DONATIONS NEEDED “A donation from the business community would help to carry costs,’ Taylor continued. ‘‘They could also help publicize the event by: carrying it in their advertise- ments.” The groups in need of donations are varied. In April the long list of com- munity events begins with a spring bulb display at the curling rink. Money will be needed to purchase bulbs. In May a Japanese dance group will perform at the Recreation Centre. The group will need to have costs, such as transportation to and from the centre, covered. A Boy Scout and Girl Guide jamboree takes place in- June at Waterfront Park, and again costs would likely include transporta- tion. The two groups are also looking for food donations. TRANSPORT COSTS Many community bands will perform throughout the city, and theit costs would include transpor- tation, “You can't ask a band to per- form if you can’t get them to and from the place they are to per- form,"’ Taylor said. “We have first class entertain- ment, It’s the local talent we’re trying to flog,’’ he said. Taylor said special events on the North Shore. will not be in com- petition with Expo. . The idea is to give residents and visitors an opportunity to enjoy what the North Shore has to offer, Taylor said. .
