Championship, and, ultimately, another shot at the Presidents Cup. They started with a preseason tilt in Port Co- quiltam on April 27, Behind the one-goal, five-assist per- formance of John Fenskic and four-goals one-assist performance of Todd Lemeniuk, they came away with a 1610 5 victory. The regular season opened at home May 3 against the East Van Bluebirds. The locals pounded the birds 27 to 13 on a ten-point night by Barry Powless and four goal efforts by Semeniuk and Vern Buker. A home and home series followed with their arch- enemy Surrey Rebels. After taking a 17 to 10 lead, they held on for a 17 to 14 win. Wilfred Baker had three Norwesters THIRTY-FIVE North Shore athletes competed in the South Fraser Junior Olym- pics Track and Field Meet last weekend. Surrey’s renovated and resurfaced Bear Creek Track attracted over 1,000 young athletes, making this the largest school-age event to take place this season. The North Shore athletes, entered by Nor-Westers Track and Field Club, came up against tough competi- tion. The best athletes from Lower Mainland Schools and Clubs took the opportunity to check out local rivals before moving on to the B.C.’s, the B.C. Elementary Championships at the end of THE NORTH. VAN- COUVER CHENA Swim Club placed a_ respectable tenth out of the 38 clubs in- volved in the Hyack Invita- tional Swim Meet held. May 18 to 20 at New Westminster’s Canada Games Pool. The Mexican National Swim Team, in. their first Canadian competition since . the 1976 Montreal Olympics, were overall ‘winners in the meet with 30-gold, 30 silver, and 18 bronze medals. * Swimming for the second- place finishing Hyack Swim Club, West Vancouver's Ian Hylands won gold medals in the 200-metre medley and the 200-metre freestyle medley Colts set for intern’i tourney THE NORTH SHORE COLTS will face interna- tional competition June 5, 6, and 8 at B.C. Place Stadium. The exhibition tournament will pit the local PRSL squad in a four-team battle with Glasgow Celtic, Holland's Ajax of ;Amsterdam, and a team made up of PRSL all- Stars. © ‘ Ex-Whitecaps Rudi Krol and Peter Beardsley will ap- pear in the three-day event. Krol playing for Ajax, Beard- sley for the Colts. The tournament kicks off June 5 at 8 p.m. with Celtic going against the PRSL allstars. . the month. Track victories were hard to find, but Club athletes placed high in the technically-demanding field -goals and four assists with hat tricks by Semeniuk and Vern Baker. The home game on Fri- day, May 10 proved to bea different story as a fired up Rebel team, .some great defense and solid goalten- ding resulted in a 1-1 after one period. The Indians outscored the Rebels 5-2 in the second period. An 8-9 tie after three periods forced overtime. The North Shore team played the first 3:50 of overtime one man short, but meet events, which accounted for four out of the Club’s five se- cond place awards. ‘When the short school track season comes to an end in early June, Nor-Westers athletes will continue with Club-sponsored meets in B.C., Washington and Oregon.
