An uplifting tale of ale to fol-
low:

Honest brew, as you know, is an
integral part of being a Northender.

Not just in the consuming end,
for this is a land of more than just,
addled-headed draft beer ‘guzzlers.

There is a veneration interwo-
ven in the very fabric of the North
Shore for quality bitters, ales, pil-..
sners, stouts and porters.

Could be the strong local British

heritage that accounts for aforesaid
ale appreciation. Something in the
water, perhaps. .

Whatever the reasons, the North
Shore has a rich history of siring
imaginative and interesting beer- °
producing ventures, i

Back in 1982, for example, the
Troller Pub in Horseshoe Bay
became the first microbrewery in
Canada after securing a licence to
brew its own ale. |

Though it closed in 1987, the

- brewery was resurrected by. local
brewmaster David Bruce-Thomas,

who tumed it into Horseshoe Bay’s .

And last May, North;
Vancouver's Sailor Hagar’ s neigh:

pub in the Lower Mainland and one
of only four brew pubs in B.C.
when it opened its impressive
Sailor Hagar’s Brew Pub brewery .
