Ifthe name Stevie Haston decsi’t ring a
bell, you're obviously not up on your elite
rock climbers. ‘The English-born 41 -vear-old
is considered one of the best solo alpinists in
the world, and holds many first ascents to his
credit. Ho's got the resume to prove it.

He's also got the actitude. Bio information
sent along prior to the phone interview paints
Haston as the bad boy of climbing: the
Dennis Rodman of the Roc

It's a reputation Haston says is probably
deserved to some extent

“What tends to really separate the really
great climbers is they have a pretty good will;
maybe they're a littie bit nasty,” he say:
“Most gold medal winners, they can pretend
all they like, but deep down inside they're a
little bit nasty.”

He adds he gets into trouble with people
because “IE tend not to pretend.”
