RAMIN PEIFAN of West) Van-
couver steamrolled the competi-
tion at the Philips under-14 na-
tional tennis championships in
Saskatooi, winning both the
singles and doubles titles.

In a 63-minute singles final on
Saturday, top-seeded Pejan quick-
ly dispatched the tourney'’s No. 3
seed — also his doubles partner —
Jocelyn Robichaud of Joliette
Que., 6-1, 6-1.

The top-ranked doubles team.
Pejan and Robichaud took the
doubles final against Tyson Parry
of Chatham, Ont., and Graham
Cross of London, Ont. 6-2, 6-3.

Through the entire tournament,
Pejan, I4, lost approximately 12
games.

Pejan is only the second male
tennis player to sweep both the
indoor and outdoor titles in
singles and doubles.

West Vancouver's Russell Stuart
achieved the under-14 sweep in
1990.

THREE NORTH Vancouver soc-
cer players played on the B.C.
boys under-15 all-star soccer team
that won the Canadian champion-
ship in Hamilton, Ont. earlier this
month,

Fullback Matt Judd and
goalkeeper Steve London, both of
Argyle Secondary, and forward
Christian Saliaa of Windsor com-
peted with the B.C. squad against
seven provinces fur the champion-
ship.

In the final, B.C. defeated
Quebec 2-1] including a goal
scored by Salina.

London had shutouts in all the
games he played in the tourna-
ment.

The three boys are members of
the North Shore Selects) which
play in the B.C. Youth Soccer
Association Select League.

They will be invited to attend a
training camp for the national
under-16 soccer team this October
at Simon Fraser University.

Sydor sets
Canadian
cycling best

ALISON SYDOR of North Van-
couver won a branze medal at the
world cycling championships in
Stuttgart, Germany last weekend.

This is the highest a Canadian
has ever placed in the world road
eveling championships. The
previous best by a Canadian was
fourth by Karen Strong, now the
national cycling coach, in the 1981
world championship. .

Svdar finished the 80-kiionietre
road race course in 2:46, winning
a sprint finish at the front of a
W-rider pack.

Leontien Van Moorsel of the
Netherlands won the gold medal

in 2:09.47.
