MAILBOX Federal trough slammed Dear Editor: I have just received the latest newsletter from the National Citi- zens’ Coalition and I am outraged at the statistics they give regarding an orgy of trough wallowing by our elected representatives. Mary Collins, for example, after just a few years of seeming to do very little, will receive a pension totalling $984,842 at the end of her present term. Meanwhile, we taxpayers are forced to contribute CPP premiums for up to 45 years to collect a meager monthly payment Reader likes Sunshine Girl Dear Editor: I am writing in response to the four ‘‘conscientious objectors’’’ letters against the Sunshine Girls in your June 13 paper. I am tired of people who can’t seem to accept that we are now living in the latter part of the 20th century. These people were ob- viously raised believing sex to be something dirty and kept behind closed doors. The fact that they are unable to accept their own sexuality and that of the human race as a whole only reflects the repressive old-world attitude in which they are still obviously trapped. After all, who in the world does not become confronted, on a daily basis, by pictures and imagery of naked or near naked bodies. We see this in magazines, commer- cials, television shows, movies, art, etc. Obviously, these four objectors graduated from the Andrea Dworkin school of repression and religious restraint. I fail to see why they aren’t whining about underwear ads, breast cancer checks and bumper stickers. In conclusion, 1 would just like to say that we guys like the Sun- shine Girls and if you girls want Sunshine Guys, you should have them. I don’t like to see your paper manipulated this way. It is a mis- representation for your entire mailbox to consist of letters against the Sunshine Girls. Let’s see both sides of the story. John Dieudonne Langer North Vancouver . Error corrected A LETTER in the Sunday, July 1 News contained a typographical error that inadvertently changed the meaning of the letter’s final paragraph. The concluding sentence of the letter submitted by Emery Weiss, chairperson of the Local Spiritual Assembly and headlined ‘Future of Canada is great’, should have read: ‘‘Adoption by Canadians of the Principles of social justice, unity in diversity, and the like will ensure a glorious future for Canada. CANADIAN CLOSET SHOPS Ls 986-4263 ‘Free home estimates Ita real holiday not indexed to inflation the way Mary Collins’ pension is indexed. How can Mary Collins justify her pension of near to a million dollars, fully indexed to inflation? Has she contributed as much to society in six years as the average taxpayer in over 40 years of solid labor? A second example of blatant squandering of our tax revenue was seen just a few days ago when Mr. Mulroney gave $5 million in U.S. dollars to Nelson Mandela. Surely such contributions should be made by private indi- viduals and not made forcibly on our behalf by our representatives. The money is probably deficit fi- nanced at 14 per cent, so we will end up paying more than $21 mil- lion in total over the 30 years amortization, Who gave Mr. Mulroney the right to commit us to pay off $21 million to help Mr. Mandela with activities that den’t even benefit Canadians? There must be others out there who are also fed up with these “bottomless trough pigouts’’ by our politicians and I urge them to join the National Citizens’ Coali- tion (who do not accept any gov- ernment handouts) to help expose the waste.
