N. Van firm receives award for excellence AT THE Canadian Home Builders’ Association of British Columbia's (CHBA-BC) annual con- ference in Kelowna recently, eight separate awards, in- cluding one to a North Van- couver firm, were presented to companies and individuals within the housing industry. The awards, received in recognition of outstanding achievement in residential construction, covered all facets of the industry from single family homes inside and outside metro areas, multi-family complexes under and over 24 units, Jand development, technical innovation, and renovation. Said in-coming CHBA-BC president, Andre Molnar, “The winners of these awards represent the highest calibre within the residential construction industry, They not only help to establish the standard for the future, they pave the way for the recog- nition of housing as a major industry in the province of British Columbia.”’ Entrants were judged ac- cording to established criteria by a five-member panel of housing experts from government and _ in- dustry. For excellence in renova- tion, the award was pres- ented to Barclay Construc- tion Corporation of North Vancouver, Robert Adair, Architect for their ingenuity in renovation of a burned apartment building in Ab- botsford. Other honors included awards for excellence in single family construction. Inside and outside Metro area awards were presented to Parklane Homes of Bur- naby for Cambria Model and to Nick Boumeester Building of Monte Lake for their home featured in the Kamloops Parade of Homes. Shandel!l Springs Development built by Abco Properties of Abbotsford, received the award in multi- family construction under 24 units, while Quadrant Development of Richmond for their Cascades Village project was recognized in the multi-family construction, over 24 units category. The achievement of ex- cellence award in land development went to Broadmead Farms for their 1,100 living unit develop- ment situated over 716 acres along the Victoria coastline. Technical innovation awards were presented to builder Ken Sawatsky of Kenorah Construction in Richmond for his Heritage Character Homes and for demonstrated expertise in R-2000 construction and to Cano Structure in Langley for their revolutionary pre- fabricated, pre-insulated Nascor Wall System. Award ceremonies took place October 8 at the Capri Hotel in Kelowna. Also in- cluded on the three-day con- ference agenda was the an- nouncement of the Profes- sional Conduct Review Committee established to oversee member activities and to act as a disciplinary board for the association. As well, the new Builder Cer- tification Program, pro- moting professionalism among builders was official- ly introduced, Lastly, CHBA-BC elec- tions were held resulting in a new executive with Andre Molnar as president, Brian Usher — Ist vice-president, Gary McInnis — 2nd vice- president, and Olin Anton — secretary-treasurer.
