NORTH VANCOUVER District fire inspectors
say an electrical fault may have been behind a
fire that gutted a North Shore home five days

before Christmas.

Department officials and
B.C. Hydro electrical
specialists were still examin-
ing the scene of the fire late
last week.

The blaze started in one
corner of a master bedroom
of the house, located at 3633

Little
reason
for cheer

A NORTH Vancouver man
has little reason to look for-
ward to the New Year.

He’ll be in court to face
sentencing on a charge of
evading income tax.

Gordon Gambler pleaded
guilty to the charge in court
in mid-December.

According to Revenue
Canada, Gambler evaded
paying taxes on $46,665.34.

Woman fair

A 73-YEAR-OLD North
Vancouver woman is in fair
condition in Lions Gate
Hospital after being struck
by a car Thursday afternoon.

Winnifred Morgan was hit
by a single car at the intersec-
tion of St. George’s and East
First Street at 3:30 p.m.
Thursday.

Lorraine Avenue, and gutted
the top floor of the home.

Members of the family
escaped the blaze unharmed
but a District firefighter
wasn't as fortunate.

ped on the icy slope leading

ching hgaments in his knee.

Fire department officials
say he was lucky it was only
his knee — he fell within in-
ches of a downed, live Hydro
line that had carried electrici-
ty to the house.

No estimate of the amount
of damage done to the house
was available to press time.

Investigation into the fire
continues.
