§ mailbox A7 - Sunday, March 27, 1983 - North Shore News Dear Editor: * I was disappointed and dismayed after reading a report in a recent edition of the North Shore News with reference to changes contemplated for Ambleside Park. As I remember the changes would close the through road at the Children’s Playground and convert the grassy area west NV City poorly served by council Dear Editor: To charges of mere political posturing, Alderman Dean of North of this to a parking lot. lam certain that the proponents of this idea are not familiar with the way the park is used. I use the seawalk almost daily for a walk and I am quite familiar with park usage. Many people, even on rainy days, drive to the sea wall to watch the passage of boats and ships to and from the harbour. Many are elderly and: often do not even get out of their cars to enjoy the view. The police make regular patrols both day and night which | am sure is quite a deterrent to vandals, although even with that service there is still evidence of vandalism i.e. public telephones disabled and shakes pulled off the picnic shelter roof on a regular basis. I believe that the parking is presently as good as can be Don’t change Ambleside Park expected and would not be significantly improved by closing off the park road and eliminating parking inside. One aspect is that we would lose approx. an acre of green, and seven ornamental > trees. Mr. Mayor and council, I hope you will reconsider your decision and allow the park to remain as if is. A.J. Duncan West Vancouver Seniors rap W.Van school closure OPEN LETTER TO MAYOR HUMPHREYS We are all residents of the Kiwanis Apartment Com- plex for Senior Citizens located immediately south of Pauline Johnson school. We have just learned that the school is slated for closure this year.. We have enjoyed wat- ching and hearing the children for many, many years. We think it is shocking and unnecessary to close this school which has so many children. Surely there are better ways to save money. We demand to know what will become of the school building. As grandmothers and great grandmothers, we wonder why the children would be required to attend a crowded school in a busy commercial area when Pauline Johnson School site is so Safe and open and they can be near their homes. Don't citizens and parents have any say in these itm- portant matters? Mrs. E.M. Smith and 35 other signatures West Van. Brunch & Burgers SUNDAYS FROM 11:30A.M.
