Good news for
acne sufferers

WASHINGTON (UPI) - A
still-experimental drug
found “unbelievably  suc-
cessful” in treating severe
acne holds down the guilty
bactena long after the drug's
use has been discontinued, a
researcher reported
recently.

Dr. James Leyden of the
University of Pennsylvania
School of Medicine said the
drug, a vitamin A derivative
called 13-cisretinoic acid, ts
expected to be approved by
the Food and Drug = Ad-
ministration later this year
for use in pauents with very
severe acne about 5 per
centof all acne patients
