“Cellulite: Just a nice
name for Fat” written by
freelance journalist Allison
Griffiths, appeared recently
in a North Vancouver
newspaper.

Since the North Shore
Community has been the
leader in initiating cellulite
control centres in Van-
couver, the question of
“hocus pocus” in the
business should be set
straight.

A woman may weigh one
hundred
physically fit and have
cellulite. If, all her life she
exercised consistently, and
ate only simple nutritious
foods the risk of developing
cellulite would be sim.

But when activity levels
alter, as in sickness or
inability to exercise

_ regularly, body toxins ac-
‘cumulate. Ingestion of
preservatives, sugar and salt
accelerate waste congestion.

In defence the body
surrounds the waste with its
fibres. The fibres grow as
irritation continues. It is a
known fact in medicine that.
connective fibres surround
foreign particles, as it does
for example in cancer, to
protect other organs from its
harmful effects. This same
process precedes the for-
mation of the ‘bulges, lumps
and bumps.” What has
developed is a_ structural
disorganisation of con-
nective tissue, not fat.

The principle of the
performance of the cellulite
reducing machine is founded
in the fact that all processes
in the body are accompanied
by smal] electrical currents.
Thus with electrical impulses
the machine stimulates these
normal processes. Experts
are stiJi not sure why
electrical currents eliminate
cellulite — nor are they sure
how electrical currents heal
bone breaks, eradicate
infection and show potential
for other cures.

A machine of this type was
first introduced at the close
of World WAr II. Severely
injured veterans with
wasting muscle tissue were
attached in intervals to the
machines. The electrical
impulses rejuvenated muscle
tissue, as intended but
resulted in an undesired
weight loss. The field of
cosmetology was quick to
latch on to the concept.

Dr. Stwernagel presented
a paper at CIDESCO World
Congress in Vienna, ¢x-
