“~~ i Aincfizz Dear Mr. Fizz: Would you agree that if there is no God, ne absolute - being, there can be no absolute values? : Fizz: No. I-think these uestions are logically dis- tinct. In any case to explain existence absolutely we must come to a being which contains within itself the reason for “its own existence, a being which cannot not exist. Got it? Hey, it’s time to for everybody to Limbo: 2 oz. light rum, 1/2 oz. banana liqueur, 1 oz. . orange juice. Shake well with cracked ice and strain into a‘ cocktail glass. Dear. Mr. Fizz: It scems thac God does not exist. God is infinite soodness. If God existed there would be no evil in the world. There is evil. God does not exist. Fizz: God in his infi- nite goodness, brings good even our of evil. He allows evil to exist and from it produces good. Try, for exampic, a Little Devil: 1 oz. Gin, L.oz. rum;1/2 oz. Triple Sec, 1/2 02. lemon juice. Shake well with cracked — ice and strain into a cock- tail glass. . | Dear Me Fizz: If 1 can { draw a clear and distinct idea of God from my thought, may I not derive from this an argument demonstrating, the exis- tence of God? Fizz: Why nor? You think therefore God is. * Now here’s a clear and distinct idea of a Cafe Bonaparte: 1 1/2 07. brandy, cappuccino. Pour brandy into 2 coffee cup and add cappuccino. Stir well and top with whipped cream. Dear Mr, Fizz: God is a concept by which we measure our pain. Fizz: OK, so love hurts. Slip into a Cerebral Hemorrhage: 1 oz, Kahlua, 1 02. peach schnapps, 1 oz. Bailey’s Irish Cream, several drops of grenadine. Layer Kahlua, peach schnapps and Bailey’s Trish Cream into an old fashioned glass with ice and add sev- cral drops of grenadine. For God's sake, please do not stir. RECALLING some of 1997s productions for a last curtain call under the “best of” category is a little unfair — especially in a stnall space. After all, how do you compare the mega-musicals like Les Miserables (a S90 disappointment) with North Shore produced com- munity theatre? The Jessie Richardson (Vancouver's professional theatre awards) com- mittce has been tinkering with the formula for comparing large and small budget productions fer years and has yer to please everyone. Since I did not see every show on the North Shore, never mind the rest of Vancouver, this exercise in recollection is not only subjective, it’s based on incomplete data. That said, one production rises head and shoulders above everything else I saw last vear. The Vancouver Playhouse’s ballet without dance, The Overcoat , was boldly imaginative in conception and flawlessly executed by a mixed professional and student cast under the direc- tion of Morris Panych and Wendy Gorling. One single evening of Vancouver theatre justi- fied so many of disappointment. Deep Cove Stage’s Rehearsal for Marder unfortunately got reviewed on the coat tails of The Overcoat. A shame, because the production was good enough to make me forget | dislike murder mysteries. ‘There were many highlites at this year’s Fringe Festival. i still tecall with emoiion local actor Jay Brazeau cradling a terminally-ill baby in his arms as a lonely sandman in the Angry Actors’ production of Famous Dead Stories We Just Made Up. Comedies outperformed dramas at this year's North Shore Zone Theatre BC Festival. West Vancouver Little Theatre’s Rarcfoot in the Park took the main prize on the strength of a stellar performance from Caroline Heisler but Presentation House Production’s British farce Move Over, Mrs. Markham offered more laughs. The Arts.Club won the summer entertain- ment stakes with Dean Regan’s naive bur ener- getic tribute to local deejay Red Robinson, Red Reck Diner.
