EVERYBODY'S LOOKING for ways to save a
few bucks. A committee comprised of’ school’
trustees and education ministry officiais has been
told to hit the books to find ways to reduce the
number of school districts in B.C. ‘Che alternative
is the government’s plan to halve the districts to 37
from the present 75, resulting in at anticipated _
$30-million per year savings. The plan pairs North
and West Vancouver school districts, But critics are
skeptical of the savings and are worried that the
two municipalities are too disimilar to be united
under one board. Money is also an issue. North
Van is already faced with a $2.6-million deficit of
funds and West Van, with 6,04) pupils, fears being

overwhelmed by North Van’s 17,712.
