a mid-sized, 1,638 kg (3,604 Ibs.)
station wagon: City driving con-
sumes 13.6 1/100 km (21 m.p.g.).
while highway driving averages 8.6
1/100 km (33 m.p.g.).

Noteworthy suspension changes
for 1995 have improved ride and
handling. A revised front
McPherson strut setup and a new
multi-link rear suspension have
reduced body roll by 35%. This
increased stability improves han-
dling, steering response and accu-
racy, reduces dive under braking,
and makes driving a more pleasur-
able and secure experience. The
960 Wagon also has an extremely
tight turning circle: 9.7 metres
(31.9 ft.). Some front-wheel-drive
vehicles are over 40 feet.

Like all Volvo’s, the 960 wagon
has a strong roll cage structure and
deformable crush zones for crash
safety. For 1995, additional steel
inserts in front help prevent
footwell intrusion in severe colli-
sions. The 960 also has Volvo's
unique SIPS (side impact protec-
tion system) for greater protection
in side collisions, but the 960 is not
available with Volvo’s new side
airbags yet.

Other safety features include
dual airbags, three-point seatbelts
in all five seating positions, five
head-restraints, and an integrated
child’s booster seat in the centre
rear position. A two-person. rear-
facing, third-row rear seat is also
available to increase the 960°s pas-
senger capicity to seven. The third
rear seat is for children up to 40 kg
(88 lbs.) only. Active safety fea-
tures include four whee! disc
brakes with ABS for quick, safe
stops, and an automatic locking
rear differential to improve traction
in slippery conditions.

quality built in, the 960 Wagon is a
good choice. Compared to other
