It; was through the investigation of his expense account that Williams’ credentials came into question, Williams claimed to hold a “Bachelor of Arts (Honor) degree, a Masters of Arts degree and a Doctorate of Philosophy in History .- from the University of British “Columbia (UBC) when applying for the superintendent of schools position with the CSD. 7 _When asked about his creden- tials recently by the CSD, Williams responded through his attorney by supplying photocopies of the three degrees he claimed to hold. Davis said UBC subsequently advised the CSD board that the uni- versity had no record of his doctor- “ate degree and that his bachelors degree was not an honors degree. Williams’ lawyer David Rice ». said he was aware of the universi- ty’s comments and that he was cur- ‘rently trying to ascertain if error or oversight accounted for their Jack of records. School administrators are paid on a scale system based on their education history. Those with a masters degree are paid at the top level (level six) and those with a doctorate degree receive a bonus allowance. Williams, who was hired by NVSD as a teacher in 1971, pre- sented his doctarate degree when be applied to the district for an " 5 Mes administration position in 1973. He was subsequently hired. NVSD superintendent of schools Dr. Robin Brayne said Williams “provided documentation and was paid accordingly.” Brayne estimated the bonus allowance paid to Williams to be $600 per annum at that time.
