Life brings syndication an ANNO DOMINI 1993 wasn't a bad year for ratbags, racists, rascals and other enemies of the people like me. We’re still breathing and . haven’t even been sent to jail ‘ON THE OTHER HAND “There are a few people I'd like to thank for their kind attention. “ First'and foremost, the NDP. Had it not been for Mikey and Co. I might have fallen into the dol- drums. Which would never do. ...What happened, you see, was “that Mike Harcourt, Moe Sihota, : and the’ myriad loonies who cluster ‘around them in Victoria brought in il] 33; the Anti-Free Speech Act.:- that also became known as the Kill. oi spur vende? ee °U: Blumel © : North Vancouver © oe eae Editor’s note: Copy is submit ae ed by the’ Sunshine Girls them- You are ‘invited to’ a.ve '- knew. half a century. ago,’ concludes the article with: “That's . said, “Doug will have to be a bit more careful.” Not that [ was the only target. Butt got the most mentions in the legislature, Well done, Doug. The column even became syndi- cated, the thinking being that any- one hated that much by the NDP can’t be all bad. True, it was soon de-syndicated, But that's life. Sometimes the pressure groups win. And sometimes they lose, After summoning their minions to do a protest dance outside the North Shore News, for instance, the ’ Charan Gills and the Alan Duttons of the B.C. Organization to Fight Racism (so-called) asked the Governur General of Canada and the prime minister to ie my little Canada 125 medal aw: If they hadn't been wo interested in me, | might not have been inter- viewed on CBS's Sixty Minutes. As it was, my subversive thoughts were heard across the wide blue ~ yonder, Why I got the award I don't know. Maybe they got me mixed up with some other Collins. As the year progressed, Gill and Co. held press conferences, bawled, wept, and sweated righteous rage. They even tried to get Vancouver City Council to join their throng but had no luck there, either. - So at this writing 1 still have the medal. . Actually, the one who started . the process was Lionel Kenner of North ‘Vancouver, so let’s thank him, too, He’s:a “doctor” who who can cure no pain. « Little old Lionel appeared : before the North Vancouver Council asking them to send their own awards back, seeing that Doug Horrible nad one. | demanded equal tine and gave council a fine lecture on how immigration is ruining this country, Socialist councillor Bill Bell rose to say that Bill 33 would fix the likes of me, all right. There speaks NDP democracy. I'm glad I rang your bell, Bell. But the biggest bang came from the homos. I had written a column headed “Coming out in the media,” 4 treatise on how pansies have infested The Vancouver Sun, the CBC, the Globe & Mail, etc,, and how we are getting propaganda fram the Temple of Sodom. Attempts were made to shut down the North Shore News. Threats galore, Phones were tied up. Petitions were circulated. Advertisers were harassed. Complaints went to the Press Council. Alas, the council refused to hear them, Thanks to a publisher who is not easily intimidated, the column con- tinued. Oh, [ nearly forgot. There was also a skirmish with Multicult Mair, the turban lover on CKNW who likes nothing better than his own voice. tam not Mister Multicult’s favorite person. He regularly attacks me, but doesn’t have the spine to.face.me in the studio. A caller asked him why he didn’t have me on and he piously remarked that he would have noth- ing to do with racists and bigots, ending up with the observation that “anyway, Collins was fired from his last job (on CJOR) for incompe- tence,” “Paul St. Pierre’ s rosy view In “Mexico: finding freedom i in "a one party state,” (North Share News, Dec. 24), Paul St. Pierre writes that he felt that he had returned “to the days Canadians * and what there seems to be so much of » here. Liberty.” This rather rosy view /of Mexico is contradicted by an arti---; cle in the Globe & Mail of Aug, *30,.1993. “Ignoring human rights i in trade with Mexico” tells us that “more than 160 members of the opoosi- tion Democratic Revolutionary ; Party have been killed s 1988.” It also states that police “regu- since larly beat prisoners, shove their . heads into plastic bags to suffo- cate them, hang them by their special FREE “luncheon addressing # ese issues. Multicult's original statement was pure fiction and he knew it was, He let his tongue run away with his brain, There was never even a hint that KEN BAXTER LAWYER 24 Years Experience incompetence played a part in my leaving. In the time ] was on the air my ratings more than doubled and I never got the station into the glue. Except wilh the pressure groups, of course. Mair forgot to mention that a few months after [left the station he was dumped. When he began, he had a rating of about 34,000, But that fell to about 19,000. Goodbye, Rafe. Today, of course, he’s riding high. Which is not hard when you have the only talk show in town. But in those days he was battling Bannister. Well, there it is.
