Mortifee performing with Jabula

WEST VANCOUVER | singer
Ann Mortifee is helping Burnaby
School District open it's new
625-seat theatre this week.

Tonight, she and Jabula —
Zulu for rejoice — including

_ Blu Mankuma, Mahara Brenna,

Robbie King, Ed Henderson,

Dido Morris and Miles Hill, will
create a tapestry of African-
inspired drumming, harmonies
and rhythms.

It also marks the group’s last
public performance.

The evening is being held as a
fundraiser for the theatre, When
complete, it will house state-of-

the-art lighting and sound, 32
line sets, orchestra pit and full
access for the disabled.

Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. gala
performance at Burnaby South
secondary school are $34 and
available through Ticketmaster,

PEO Sisterhood chapters meet

FIVE NORTH Shore women will
be representing their respective
chapters on April 30 and May | at
the 65th annual convention of the
British Columbia chapter of the
PEO Sisterhood at the Sheraton
Hotel in downtown Vancouver.
Presiding over the convention
will be North Vancouver's
Beverley O’Brien. The other
North Shore residents are Trudie
Wilkinson (chairman of the con-
vention), Charlotte Nelson (direc-

tor of music), and Bev Piggott
and Betty Hudson (leaders of
devotion).

There are currently over 1,100
members representing 41 chapters
throughout the province,

The Sisterhood is a philanthrop-
ic educational organization
founded in lowa in 1869, Since
then it has grown to nearly a
quarter of a million members rep-
resenting 5,600 chapters across the
U.S.A. and Canada.
