Jennifer, 17, is a pilot. A Grade 12 stu- dent at Sutherland Secondary arid a member of the 103 Thunderbird Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Cadets, she received her private pilot's licence last summer while on a seven- week air cadet scholarship in Victoria. “It's a really excellent feeling.” Jen- nifer says of her time in the air. “I find flying exhilarating.” Unfortunately, she hasn't flown coo much since last summer because flying casts are about $60 per hour, but she has managed to take her parents up for a trip. All that will change, however, during her four-year degree program at Royal Roads. where she will be doing flying training during the summer and univer- sity academic work in the school year. She was accepted into the program after undergoing physical and psychological testing in Toronto, and was given the option of navigator train- ing or pilot training. She chose the latter. Jennifer's goal is to fly with the air force search and rescue team out of Comox.
